"Even For A Short Time, It Makes Your Day"

Mrs Margaret Elliott's long association with HBS Building Society commenced around fifty years ago. Today she still has funds with HBS and enjoys her visits to the Hastings Branch. "The staff are so helpful and cheerful. It's good to come and find staff who are pleasant - even if it's for a short-time, it makes your day."

Mrs Elliott recalled the time many years ago when she required urgent bridging finance to secure a house purchase. "l phoned the Manager at 12noon and told him I needed the loan by 1.00p.m. He said 'l can do that for you - that will be fine'. I couldn't believe my ears, and especially when he told me the interest rate, because I had been told by friends who dealt with banks to expect a high rate for a bridging loan. I didn't need to worry about it any more and it was very reassuring to know that the Building Society was keen to help me."

Growing up in Hawke's Bay and coming from a farming background, Mrs Elliott reminisced about bringing up four children on the farm, adding that "some years you prospered and some years you didn't". These days, her creative talents keep her busy and on leaving the G.M.'s office, Mrs Elliott presented him with a hand-crafted fabric notebook - a thoughtful touch which was much appreciated.
