Description

From the introduction – This booklet is aimed at both Hawke’s Bay residents and visitors alike. It was written to help people appreciate the special features of Ball’s Clearing Scenic Reserve, to draw attention to some of its rare or unusual animals and plants, and to explain how they all came to be there. The Reserve itself is a jewel, with no equal elsewhere in Hawke’s Bay, and few of its quality in New Zealand. It is well worth visiting for all sorts of reasons, even if only to enjoy a family picnic in the cool shade of the podocarps on a hot summer’s day. The Reserve is 65 km north-west of Napier. It is reached by travelling inland to Puketitiri and then proceeding another 1.5 km past Whittle Road on Pakaututu Road (to Hot Springs).
