‘This 11-ton A-type 0-4-0 tank locomotive of 1873, built by Dubs of Glasgow, was one of a dozen brought into New Zealand for work on railway construction. The type was employed in Hawke’s Bay to help build the Napier-Hastings line, and later drew some of the trains.’ – from “Town and Country – The History of Hastings and District” by Matthew Wright, 2001
