HIGH STANDARD SET

The concluding programme of the New Zealand amateur boxing championships was presented tonight, when finals in all eight divisions were staged before the biggest house seen at a boxing tournament here for many years.

The standard of boxing was in keeping with the previous night,

From Hastings Mail, 1 September 1939 –

‘Stan Jenkin defeated George Allen and retained his heavyweight title at Hastings. The picture shows Allen coming in to attack with gloves down. A second later Jenkin connected with Allen’s face with the lightning left with which he punished him throughout the 15 rounds of the contest. The referee was Ex Champion Tommy Donovan.’
