300 for nurse reunion

About 300 nurses from Kaitaia to Bluff are in Hastings to attend a  reunion of graduates from Hastings hospital.

Graduates from as far back as 1942 – the first classes held at the hospital – are attending the reunion.

It is the fourth the hospital has had, the last being held 11 years ago.

Celebrations will start tonight with a cocktail party at the DB Heretaunga Hotel.

The reunion will be officially opened tomorrow morning by the assistant superintendent at Hastings hospital Mr L.W.  Broughton.  Guests will include the MP for Hastings, Mr David Butcher, Mr Ron Shakespeare, the medical superintendent-in-chief of the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board,  Mr W. I. McKean and principle nursing  officer, Miss P. Ryan.

The opening will be followed by morning tea, photographs and a roll call.

A dinner will be held tomorrow night at the Heretaunga Intermediate School hall.

On Sunday morning, a church service will be held outside the hospital chapel and a closing ceremony will follow.
