Our Chorus Mistress…

The Hastings Musical Comedy Company owes a deep debt of gratitude to Mary Bell for the many hours of painstaking work she has put in with the Chorus of South “Pacific” [“South Pacific”] and its past very successful musical productions.

Without personnel of her calibre the high standard attained would not be possible.

Mary Bell has been responsible for the fine chorus work in “Sally,” “No, No Nanette,” “Rose Marie,” “Naughty Marietta.'” “Showboat,” “Rio Rita,” “The Student Prince,” and now “South Pacific.”

MARY BELL

South Pacific

FROM James A. Michener’s prize-winning novel “Tales of the South Pacific,” Rodgers and Hammerstein and Joshua Logan have created a musical which must rank as the most successful and triumphant of all time.

It is a story of exotic love set amongst the lush, exciting islands of the vast Pacific – a story of men and women on the fringe of war.

The original stage production opened at the Majestic Theatre, New York, on the 7th of April, 1949, with Mary Martin as Nellie Forbush and Ezio Pinza as Emile de Becque.

After a record-breaking run it was taken to London, and here again Mary Martin captivated her audiences with her irresistible personality.

Two thousand times she has “Washed that man right outa her hair” and been “In love with a wonderful guy.”

“South Pacific” has toured most States of the U.S.A. for the National Company, directed by Joshua Logan.

Recently it was adapted for the screen, and on Todd A-O and Wide-Screen reached new heights of greatness.

There have been recent revivals of the stage show in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

In this their 1961 production, the Hastings Musical Comedy Company desire to contribute in some small way to the further success of this enchanting: musical.
