Biography
Arrived in Lyttelton on the “Rimutaka”, departing Southampton 17 January 1922, aged 18
His father, who was a ship’s captain, had retired to Jersey and had offered his son £100 and a ticket to any country; Hugh chose New Zealand.
Went to Gisborne, two years as a near Wairoa about 1928-1930
Worked as a stock agent in Waipukurau, 1934 onwards
Bought a farm on the Porangahau Road near Waipukurau after World War 2
Farmed Willow Flat Station at Kotemaori in partnership with his son about 1953-1978
Waipukurau Country Councillor
Awarded Returned Servicemen’s Association gold star
Lived at Taupo, Westshore, then Waikanae
