Farmer in North Canterbury prior to World War One
Enlisted for war service in September 1914 and served at Gallipoli
Invalided home to New Zealand due to bomb damage to his feet whilst at Walker’s Ridge; discharged early 1916
Obtained a ballot farm – “Kowhai Downs” – at Kaiwaka Soldiers’ Settlement, north of Napier, 1917
Purchased “Braes o’Mar” at Tutira – farmed by son, Alec
