Trained as cabinetmaker in England
Arrived in Dunedin on the “Wanganui “, 6 December 1879
Came to Hawke’s Bay, 1880
Worked for Nathaniel Beamish at Okawa
Went to help build hotel at Kuripapango on west side of Ngaruroro River
Returned to work for Beamishes at Okawa, then Whana Whana in 1890
Met his wife at Stoneycroft, about 1893
At Whana Whana built original kauri gates, cottages including Bongoola, Maori whare, woolshed, and laid miles of fencing and water pipes
Lived at Whana Whana until retiring to Hastings, 1932
