“1931 late, Heretaunga St west shows Lovell-Smith Photographer, A. J. Jones & Co menswear shop at 216 next to J. R. McKenzie Ltd Fancy Goods at 218 under Miss W. A. Brogan manageress, they later moved to 107 Heretaunga St east
A. J. Jones, a Mercer, had three stores in Heretaunga St west prior to the quake – this one at 216 near Hubert John Lovell-Smith photographer and J. R. McKenzie at 218 and another Men’s Outfitter across the road at 203 adjoining his wife’s store – Mrs E. V. Jones Ladies Outfitter at 205 near Market St. Presume stock from the other demolished stores were moved temporarily into this store.”
