On New Years Day 1945 six German ME109’s attacked airfield B65 at Maldegam, Belgium. This series of photos show the aftermath of that attack.

The following extract comes from Napier RSA – Stories to Tell, page 13.

At Bodenplatte on 1 January 1945, Hitler made one last attempt to drive the allies ou tof Europe. The Army attacked through the Ardennes and the Luftwaffe attacked many airfields in use by the allies. Six ME109’s attacked the airfield of 485 (NZ) Squadron. Thirteen Spitfires were lost. During this period. Hitler’s air force lost over 200 pilots,whom he could not afford to lose.”
