Description

Ball’s Clearing, Puketitiri

Article in “Auckland Weekly News”, 4 June 1930 –

BEAUTIFUL NATIVE BUSH IN THE HAWKE’S BAY DISTRICT, FOR THE PRESERVATION  OF WHICH A DETERMINED EFFORT IS NOW BEING MADE.
Combined committees in Napier and Hastings are endeavouring to induce the Government to acquire an area of native bush around Ball’s Clearing, a natural clearing of unique botanical and scientific interest. This fine stretch of bush is one of the very few remaining pieces in the whole of the Hawke’s Bay Province and for that reason alone it is designed to keep it as a national reserve.
Looking across the clearing from the edge of the forest at Puketitiri. The clearing is 90 acres in extent.
