Description
Information from Max Harrington –
“Meeanee Church community hall building on trailer ready to travel to Greenmeadows Seminary where it would be re-used, 1910
Job arranged by Harold Holt, contractor – thought to be third from left in photo
JC Crawley was a carpenter; a bow saw was used on site – it was donated to Maxwell Leo Harrington, grandson of JC Crawley, as he also became a carpenter.
On rear of photo –
“MISSION CHURCH SHIFTED FROM MEEANEE TO GREENMEADOWS.
J.C. CRAWLEY ONE OF THE REMOVAL CREW
3RD FROM RIGHT?” ”
Information from Marist Archives –
“There were several church moves around 1910 including St Columba’s Presbyterian Church from Meeanee to Taradale and St Mary’s Ahuriri, moved from the hill in Napier. The building may have been moved but it most certainly was not to the seminary at Greenmeadows. We have no knowledge of where or what this building is.
The buildings moved from Meeanee to Greenmeadows were the Brothers’ House (now demolished) and the seminary building (still standing). “
