Clock Tower, Hastings

New Zealand Historic Places Trust Register Category 2, Number 1075
Builder – A Hampton
Architect – Sidney George Chaplin
Art Deco style
Clock made by W Littlejohns and Company
The chimes were salvaged from the Post Office tower, destroyed in the 1931 earthquake.
The city’s Coat of Arms was placed above the door in 1956 when Hastings became a city.
In 1995 brass plaques were placed on both sides of the tower to commemorate the 1931 earthquake victims in Hastings and surrounding areas.
