Description
Jim Newbigin at the bar during one of our Sunday’s long luncheons, pouring another drink
It looks as if I am sniffing something. In fact I am making a favourite at the time – “Mint Dulip”.
My recipe – jug filled with a bottle of Jim Beam Bourbon with leaves of mint (8) left in refrigerator overnight. Next morning pour contents into a container, save the leaves which have soaked at least a quarter of the bottle. Cut up leaves into smaller pieces.
To serve – a nip of Jim Beam, 2 leaves of mint, plenty of ice, shake bottle of Camroc Dry Ginger Ale and Fizz it into the glass, and sip. (It had to be Camroc Ginger Ale – tried others but not as good).
Also in the photo is Susan Dodds of Gisborne, later to become my good friend Ian Nimon’s wife. Unfortunately Ian was killed in a car accident.
The venue was Bruce and Ann McKenzie’s house, Middle Road, Havelock North, 1957.
