“On Guard! Members of the Napier and Hastings Swords Clubs watch a contest between two fencers on Wednesday night in Napier. This sport is rapidly gaining in popularity in Hawkes Bay, and some of the first-rate fencers with the foil, sabre, or epee.”

“ON GUARD. – Members of the Napier and Hastings Swords’ Clubs watch a contest between two fencers during the assault-at-arms which was held on Wednesday night at the U.F.S Hall, Napier. The weapons seen in this picture are foils, but sabres and epees (duelling swords) are also used in the sport of fencing.”
