Description
‘ “Soon after the fire which destroyed the buildings of the Hawke’s Bay Fruit, Produce and Cool Storage Co. Ltd., phoenix-like from the ashes there arose another company called the Hawke’s Bay Fruit-Growers Ltd. In view of the loss suffered by shareholders in the previous company, great credit must be given Mr Southgott in being able to float this later company.” Lester Masters, Co-op Fruit Companies, circa 1959.’ – from “100 Harvests – a history of fruitgrowing in Hawke’s Bay” by Rose Mannering, 1999, page 30
