“It must have been an important occasion which caused these well-dressed people in their horse-drawn vehicles to line up outside the Grand Hotel in Heretaunga Street about 1908. The hotel was built in 1906 of bricks made at Fulford’s yard, Havelock North. The building was destroyed in the 1931 earthquake.”
