Description
Wedding of Reverend Rungaahi Hakiwai and Reremoana
Bridal group, Reverend Hemi Huata – groom and bride, Bishop Frederick Bennett, Harry Nepe Apatu, brother-in-law who gave her away. Waimarama Puhara, Paki Paki, Pokirangi and Te Akonga Mohi, Paki Paki, Paora Kurupo, Moteo – Sir and Lady Turi Carroll, Wairoa – Kamau, Korongata – Reverend Wipere Mataira, Manutuke.
They married at Kahukuranui meeting house on Omahu Marae 2 April 1934.
Reverend Rungaahi Pene Hakiwai began his ministry at Ruatoki in 1908 and was a chaplain to the forces during World War One. He died 27 October 1935.
Reremoana’s father was Paratene Tatae and her mother was Sarah Halbert. Reremoana married her first husband, Mare Nepe Apatu, at Manutuke, Gisborne, 24 June 1913. She was widowed 1 November 1920. She was born 3 February 1889 and died 8 March 1981, aged 92.
