Early members of K.P.R
Started in the 1980s
After the tunnel was built (1988) on a Winter’s sunny day a large number ( & we) of people attended the opening morning of the track.
After the Hastings Mayor and others made their speeches a long line of carriages full of passengers enjoyed the cenery [scenery] for several hours.
The benefits to Havelock Nth and our area would benefit by.
The first name I remember was the (late) Mr Bruce Fordyce the then Head Master of Karamu High School.
It was his dream after having built an outdoor track on his property across the road from K.P.R. which was not flat land, 2 sheep grazed.
And that was the beginning of it.
Warren Blackburn (driver) & his wife Val were keen workers.
On vistors long weekends stay she was chief cook.
Mrs Fordyce provided fresh scones for working members.
Mary Doyle Home Care is where Mrs Fordyce now lives ‘Home’.
Other names were John & Nola Romanes Ph 8777203, John Dunne & wife.
He has passed away.
Harry Welch & wife helped with gardening etc.
John Keenan 8443121.
Constable Petrie barbeque cook!
My husband Is now in Duart Hospital long term.
I hope this will fill in some background.
