The building has eight ground floor shops, an entrance and stairway to the Assembly Hall.
The Public Library was put on the ground floor after the 1931 earthquake until the new library was built in 1959
Hutchinson’s took up the whole ground floor until the building was deemed unsafe in 2015, due to the new Earthquake Resistance Regulations, 2011.
