Unveiling of monument to Te Rapihana Hawaikirangi at Pakipaki
Text on monument –
This Monument was erected to the memory of TE RAPIHANA HAWAIKIRANGI
DIED 30TH OCTOBER 1919
AGED 60 YEARS.
HE WAS ONE OF THE WORTHY SONS OF AN ILLUSTRIOUS LINE OF CHIEFS. BEING A DESCENDANT OF TE WHATIUAPITI AND KAHUNGUNU.
HE WAS A GRAND-SON OF PUHARA OF HAWKE’S BAY AND PITIERA KOPU OF WAIROA.
HE WAS LOYAL TO HIS ELDERS, WORKED FOR THE WELFARE OF THE PEOPLE AND THE GOOD OF HIS COUNTRY.
HIS LAST WORDS TO HIS PEOPLE WERE – “CLING TO THE FAITH, THE LORD IS OUR REFUGE AND STRENGTH, THE VERY PRESENT HELP IN TIME OF TROUBLE.”
FAREWELL OH OUR FATHER.
