Description

Photo captions –

“Labour saving device for Wattie’s Canneries Ltd, Hastings. This […] 7 ton ‘viner’ is a […] podding machine which shells pods without having to pick them from the vines. The peas are cut by an ordinary hay mower and fed into the machine where the peas are separated. Waste is piled in a stack and used for fodder.”

“WHAT IS THIS FOR?. – Believe it or not, this apparently unwieldy gadget is used by Messrs. Wattie’s Canneries, Ltd., for shelling peas. This contraption weighs 7 tons. The peas are cut down by an ordinary mower and fed into the machine, which delivers shelled peas on one side and the stalks on the other. There is no waste. The green material is stacked and used for fodder.”
