Red Cross tent marked with cross
From ‘The Shock of ’31 – The Hawke’s Bay Earthquake’ by Geoff Conly, 1980, page 90 –
“Army issue bell tents at the Nelson park evacuation camp, Napier. Tents were issued at both Napier and Hastings for erection by individuals, and because no transport was available to many who had borrowed them, the Army arranged their collection with the help of two motor cycles and sidecars brought from Trentham for the purpose. The Army also retrieved 370 large and 31,600 small tent pegs and met a bill of $2000 for laundering blankets returned to store.”
