Captain Norman Leslie Shaw’s World War I whistle, “The Acme Thunder”, later used at France House

“THE WHISTLE”
This whistle was issued to Captain Norman Leslie Shaw who went oversea during the first world war (1914-18 ). Mr Shaw went overseas as a private and was in Gallipoli campaign.  Then he served in Flanders as far as I know. One of the uses of this whistle was to signal the troops to get out of the trenches and advance. It was also put to good use when he and his wife managed France House at Eskdale from 1938
