Bales of wool being carted by horse and wagon on the old Napier-Taihape Road from Ngaroto Station, near Dartmoor
“Two of Bill Jones’ uncles, Len (front waggon), either Sid or Perce (rear waggon); father Stan took picture from hill. Wool had been carted down-river (Tutaekuri) from Ngaroto Station, crossing river 6 and 7 times, last crossing at Mangaone and Tutaekuri Rivers at Hakowai, now at final stage in Puketapu. c. 1900.” – from “Between the Rivers” by Elizabeth Hill
