AGM 18.5.1991
PRESIDENTS REPORT 1990-1991
LADIES & GENTLEMEN. It is with much pleasure that I present to you the 63rd Annual Report of the Hastings Croquet Club (Inc).
It has been a very happy and rewarding year for me.
In May, June, & July, we held our Winter Invitation Tournaments, all capably managed by Mr J Salisbury, Mr Tom Quayle & Mrs Jessie Hunter respectively. I must personally thank David Curtis for the hours of work put in by him prior to these Tournaments.
To Adie & Karl Haswell. Thank you for the use of your home on each Saturday evening during these Tournaments where Competitors socialised and shared a meal. To every other member of the Club, who provided food, or gave of their time to help in whatever capacity, I do thank you all.
Sales Tables have been very lucrative during the Season, once again thank you to Jean Cody & Peg McCormick who so willingly looked after this project, and to you, the members who supported it. Other revenue came in from Cake Sale – Trash & Treasure and Used Clothing – Garage Sale – Raffles – Sale of Australian Balls – Donations from Members – Sale of Pumpkins.
The Hastings Permanent Building Society Tournament was again a great success. Our Club appreciates the generosity of the Society for their support and Sponsorship, as well as subsidising our Subscriptions.
The first Hastings Summer Tournament opened on October 7th, generously Sponsored by Hastings Motels. This Tournament also tied in with the Hastings Springtime Festival in which our Club took part. Trophys for this Tournament were donated by – Fran & John Salisbury – Reylands Book Shop Havelock North – Thomsons Suits Ltd – Treachers Furniture – Quality Engravers – and Tremain Travel.
Thank you to all Members, & New Members Secretary, for the fellowship you have shared with new Members in making them feel so welcome.
I am pleased to tell you that our overall Membership now stands at 80, having had 8 new Members, & 1 tranferred [transferred] from Kelburn, & 5 resignations for the year (full playing Membership 69 ).
Sadly, we lost through death Mrs Lily Young in December & Mr Ron Pattullo in February, both long standing Members of our Club.
Our lawns are in good condition for winter play. Many thanks to our Greens Supervisor & his willing helpers. Mr Bill Dougan continues to be our Mower Man, and co-operates very well with Members.
During the past year, through efforts of Committee & Club Members, we have bought 6 Outdoor Seats, – one donated by Reylands Book Shop Havelock North – 1 Lawn Boy & Plugger – painted exterior & roof of Club House, also provided Barbeque Lunch after Players Meeting.
Because of on going burglaries, we installed a night light & barred windows, this seems to have deterred burglars. In August we purchased a new Refrigerator, also 18 chairs from Kia Toa Bowling Club.
On September 7th, we celebrated Ernie Williams’s 90th birthday with morning tea in Club House, 64 Members attended.
A New Name Board graces the Club House Wall, this was made & donated by Karl Haswell. Thank you Karl.
On February 10th, Hastings Club Members travelled to Rangatira Club in Dannevirke to share a social day. A very pleasant & enjoyable day was had by all, we will reciprocate in the near future.
Congratulations to winners of Club Competitions, these were very well supported this year.
To Executive & Committee Members who are not seeking re-election this year, thank you for your support & loyalty during your term in office.
Many thanks to our Auditor Mr Douglas Hunter.
Our Club has again gone from strength to strength, and I look forward to the 1991-1992 season, and the challenge it holds.
PRESIDENT. 18-5-91.
Noeline Harrison
