Annual Report 1996-7

PRESIDENT’S REPORT A.G.M. MAY 17TH 1997.

This year has seen this Club struggle to keep our finances in a state of solvency, and to keep our Membership at a stable level. This was achieved with a constant round of Fund-raising activities and a concerted effort to recruit new members.

Although the committee this year has been small in number they made up for this with their enthusiasm and commitment.

The proposed new Rules and Constitution have been “Ratified” by the Registrar of Incorporate Bodies and is now in force.

My thanks to Joyce Barry for her unstinting work on this and many other projects during the year. Joyce is an energetic person who has shown a willingness to become involved in all aspects of the Club as well as her duties as secretary.

Eileen Lloyd has been a wonderful Captain this year. One would never think that she was doing this job for the first time. Not only has she performed her duties as captain but she has also taken on many of the duties that would normally be the province of a greenkeeper. Thank you Eileen.

Our stalwart Treasurer, Beryl Steenson has once again kept our finances in order and our spending within limits. We are pleased that you are back to your usual cheery self after your illness Beryl. Thanks to Val Clarkson who willingly took on this role while Beryl was sick. We are very grateful for your help.

Thanks to Noeline Harrison our publicity officer who has managed to get more croquet results published in the newspaper than any other croquet club in N.Z. It is good to keep croquet in the public eye. Unfortunately Noeline has indicated that she does not wish to hold any office next year. She wishes to have a break after many years of sterling service to this club. During the time Noeline has been a member of this club she has held office in most, if not all positions.

Thanks to Dorothy MacKenzie for all her work as Club Handicapper and vice-captain. Apart from these duties she found time and energy to reorganise our rubbish collection and thus saved the Club over $700.

Thanks to Dawn Blackburn and her assistant Greta Dodd for their untiring work as House Manager. This job requires lots of “People Skills”. Fortunately Dawn has plenty of these qualities and so has done her job with houmour [humour] and tact.

Anne Bowden started the year as our Almoner but unfortunately she became ill herself and so Noeline stepped into the breach and continued with the ‘good work’. Glad you are now much better Anne.

Thanks to the coaches and umpires who gave their time, expertise and energy to all of us at various times during the year.

Thanks to Nola Paul and Lorraine Coles who tirelessly manned the Sales Table throughout the year.

Thanks to the many Members who help in a variety of ways – cleaning the club house, organising raffles, supplying food for tournaments and numerous other tasks.

Thank you all!

I wish you all a successful and happy 1997-98 year of croquet.

A McCracken
