Dear Derek,

Jennifer and I have the opportunity to travel to the United Kingdom to join friends and share a house with them during September.

As we have only been to the UK once before, have our daughter there at present, and our son will be there by that time too, we have decided on somewhat short notice to complete the exodus of the Bate family and go too!

We expect to be away from the latter part of August till early November.

I shall miss the Rotary meetings for the rest of August, during September and October, and the first couple of Tuesdays in November. Would you please arrange for me to have leave of absence and for my apology to be recorded at the AGM which I assume will be held while we are away.

I’m sure the Club will welcome a different and probably better format for any inductions.

Would you please see that Pres Merv is warned of my absence so he can ask someone else to do that job. I’ll mention it to Neil Donaldson and Paul Jones who, with me, are the Membership Classification committee.

I think it is time I retired from the Rotary Charitable Trust – and it would be good for another person to have the opportunity to serve as a trustee of the Trust. I shall try to catch up with my co-trustees to tell them this before I go – but hope it will be possible for another appointment to be made to the Trust, also at the AGM.
