Education: Central Primary School, Gisborne; Gisborne Intermediate; Gisborne High School; Churchill Fellowship 1977.
Founder, Director Beattie & Forbes Bookshop Limited, Napier, 1968-1977; Sales and Marketing Director Penguin Books (NZ) Limited, Auckland, 1977; Managing Director, Penguin Books (NZ) Ltd 1978-1987; Managing Director, Ashton Scholastic Limited, 1988 – ; President, Book Publishers Association of NZ, 1983-1985.  President, Napier Jaycees, 1969 -; President, Napier and District Save the Children Fund, 1969-1974; frequent speaker, NZ and overseas, on literacy, particularly influence of TV on children’s acquisition of language.
