REQUIEM MASS, MONDAY JULY 24, 1989, SACRED HEART, HASTINGS

ENTRANCE HYMN

GOD GIVES HIS PEOPLE STRENGTH ENTRANCE

God gives his people strength.
If we believe in his way
He’s swift to repay
All those who bear the burden of the day.
God gives his people strength

God gives his people hope.
If we but trust in his word,
Our prayers are heard,
He warmly welcomes anyone who’s erred.
God gives his people hope.

God gives his people love.
If we but open wide our hearts,
He’s sure to do his part.
He’s always the first to make a start.
God gives his people Love.

God gives his people peace.
When sorrow fills us to the brim
And courage grows dim.
He lays to rest our restlessness in Him.
God gives his people peace.

WELCOME AND PRAYER

WORD OF GOD

First Reading: “A really good wife and Mother.” Ecclesiasticus 26: 1 – 4, 13 – 16.

RESPONSE

GENTLE AS SILENCE

Oh’ the Love of my Lord is the essence
of all that I love here on earth.
All the beauty I see he has given to me
and his giving is gentle as silence.

Every day, every hour, every moment
have been blessed by the strength of his love.
At the turn of each tide
he is there at my side,
and his touch is as gentle as silence.

Second Reading:   “Nothing can come between us and the Love of God.”   Romans &: 31 – 39.

Gospel:   “Trust in Providence” Luke 12: 22 – 32.

HYMN

IMMACULATE MOTHER

Immaculate Mother, we call upon thee,
From this land of the South, from our isles of the sea,
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria!  Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria!

We pray for God’s Glory; May his kingdom come!
We pray for His Vicar, Our Father In Rome.
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria! Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria!

And crown thy sweet mercy with special grace,
To see in His glory Our Lord face to face.
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria! Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria!

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

COMMUNION

HYMN

GALILEE SONG

Deep within my heart I feel
Voices whispering to me
Words that I can’t understand
Meanings I must clearly hear!
Calling me to follow close
Lest I leave myself behind!
Calling me to walk into
Evening shadows one more time!

So I leave my boats behind!
Leave them on familiar shores!
Set my heart up on the deep!
Follow you again, my Lord!

In my memories I know
How you send familiar rains;
Falling gently on my days
Dancing patterns on my pain!
And I need to learn once more
In the fortress of my mind:
To believe in falling rain
As I travel deserts dry!

As I gaze into the night
Down the future of my years,
I’m not sure I want to walk
Past horizons that I know!
But I feel my spirit called
Like a stirring deep within
Restless ’till I live again
Beyond the fears that close me in!

FINAL COMMENDATION

RECESSIONAL HYMN

HOW GREAT THOU ART

O Lord, my God!
When I in awesome wonder consider
All the works thy hands have made,
I see the stars,
I hear the mighty thunder;
Thy pow’r throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee,
“How great thou art, how great thou art!”
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee,
“How great thou art, how great thou art!”

When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the binds sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze.

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration and there proclaim,
“My God, how great thou art!”

Burial at the Hastings Lawn Cemetery, and at the conclusion of the Service you are invited to the Parish Hall for refreshments, kindness of the Catholic Women’s League.

Doug, Warren and Naomi, David and family thank you all for your love and prayerful support at this time.
