GOSSIP ROUND OUR OFFICE: My dizzy typiste says if you invite her to the Bar – B – Cue, you won’t want to walk around the garden amongst the flowers admiring those naked ladies – you’ll be too busy watching her to see what’s cooking.

HASTINGS ROTARACT CLUB NEWS – ROTARACT WEEK
is being held on the 10 – 15 February this year, when all the 19 Rotaract Clubs in District 293 are setting aside this week to publicise the aims and intentions of Rotaract, and beside other activities, a display is being held in the window of the Eastern & Central Savings Bank, main branch. It is intended that contributions to worthy causes will be made during this week and they hope to present Entenox (pain relieving equipment) for a new ambulance at the Hastings St. John, to supply a rescue resuscitator to the Ocean Beach Kiwi Surf Club and also donations to the Hastings Toy Library.
Rotaract Day will be officially observed this year on Saturday, 15th February, and it is hoped to celebrate this day by an approach in a practical way towards the environment, culminating with a social function in the evening. Thank you Rotaract setting an example to us all by your dedicated service to our community.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER:
Fellows, I find it hard to realise that Jack Thompson has gone. It seems only the other week that he was standing up in the Club giving the vote of thanks to John Holderness for his talk. I remember it well – it was one of the best vote of thanks I have heard in Rotary. I remember too that it was Jack who first came up to me after my induction and welcomed me into the Club. I’m going to miss the warmth of his friendship – I know you will too.
Bryce.

IT’S ON SATURDAY WEEK!   Yes, just a week now to the Club Barbecue on Saturday, 15th February.
We know that it’s going to be one of those gorgeous warm February evenings that the lovely spacious garden of Frank Darroch’s home, Undercliff, will be just perfect. Assemble for pre-barbecue drinks at around 7 p.m. – we’ll all start cooking at about 8 p.m. and afterwards, well who knows!  However, there will be some light entertainment, music for dancing and singing, opportunity to indulge in games of skill and chance and perhaps a more energetic game or two!
The barbecue costs just $2 per head (and for that you get all drinks and barbecue foods other than meat, plus lots of etceteras). You must bring your own meat to cook (steak, chops, sausages etc.) and eating utensils if you want them – that’s all.
So, see you all at Undercliff, down by the Tuki Tuki, on Saturday week!
Club Service Committee meets on Monday (10th) at the home of Frank Darroch, Undercliff, at 7.45 p.m.

PERSONALITIES OF THE WEEK:
Birthdays:
Feb. 16,    Sam Rangiihu.
