“SERVE TO UNITE MANKIND” The theme of R.I. President W. Jack Davis. He reminds Rotarians that – “every human being has dignity and value” – “therefore let us enrich and expand our thoughts and deliberations, our programme and activities, as we respond to the ideal of service to our fellow man”. In every responsible person, President Davis states there are two basic needs that must be fulfilled if life is to have meaning, purpose, and accomplishment – “The need to share and the need to serve”. For these two basic needs arise mankind’s “noble ideas that supply the power to move men, their organisations, and their civilizations forward”. President Davis suggests that Rotarians who are dedicated to serve their fellow human beings in their vocations, local communities, and the community of man should recognise and exercise Rotary’ s unique ability to advance international goodwill and understanding; participate in the activities of Rotary to eliminate problems that divide, and seek solutions that unite people – vitalise the powers for service that are in each of us , remembering that resources are given to those who use the resources and powers they have. Participate in the programmes of Rotary, recognize our distinctive kinds of service in our classifications and in our fellowship which promote unity in diversity, beginning at the Club level and spreading throughout the world. “Serve to Unite Mankind.”

ANNUAL MEETING: Our Secretary advises that copies of the Annual Report and Balance Sheet will be available at our next Luncheon Meeting.

PRESIDENTS CORNER:
Fellows, The death this week of Rotarian Ian Hickman shocked us all and I would like to thank the large number of you who attended his funeral. Ian, whilst small in stature was a mighty man and a mighty Rotarian. If there was a job to be done, you could rely on him. The hundred and one jobs he did for Rotary, St John and the community as a whole were without number. Ian had a great philosophy on life. He lived it to the full and since his retirement had been extremely active. He recently told me that he would rather have five years of active, interesting and fulfilled life than ten years of being a semi-invalid and this is just what eventuated.
To Doris, Robin and Graham we offer our deepest sympathy as we remember Ian. He lived and loved Rotary and Rotary loved him.   Don.
