ZONTA – 1978 AWARD FOR – “WOMAN OF POTENTIAL”
We have been asked to publicize details of the Award – “Woman of Potential”. This Award applies to women of all ages, irrespective of race, creed etc., and the Awardee must have a definite policy to qualify for the Award. The Zonta Club of Hawke’s Bay Area (Inc.) is a member of an international Service Organisation comprising 700 clubs in 48 countries – a service club for business and professional women and the H.B. Club this year offers an Award of $250 (Two hundred & fifty dollars) to assist a woman to develop her talents. The level of attainment, field of study and/or business is not restricted but candidates must be resident in Hawke’s Bay at the time of application. This application must include details of the proposed course of training, retraining, study, for which the Award would be used. Examples could be – course at Massey for a preschool education – for research purposes perhaps involving travelling – technical correspondence course up to $250 – perhaps community work necessitating training – etc. etc. Candidates may apply personally or be nominated by an employer or patron and will be considered by an independent panel of judges. The winner of the Zonta Club of Hawke’s Bay “Woman of Potential Award” will be announced at a public function at the Century Theatre on 31 May, when the Award will be presented in person. The Award must be taken up within a year of its being presented. Applications close on 31 March, 1978, and must be accompanied by a $5 entry fee. Applications to Zonta Club of Hawke’s Bay Area Award Committee, Box 465, Napier. Mrs T. Belshaw, Westshore, has details, and we also have further information.

ROTARACT NEWS: Rotaract are holding their Change – Over Night at the Restaurant Mayfair on Sat. evening – 8 April at 7 p.m. Incidentally, March this year is the 10th Anniversary of Rotaract in New Zealand.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER:
Fellows, From A to Z.
I had the pleasure of representing the Club last Tuesday at the charter dinner of the Hastings and District Altrusa Club. The charter was presented by the International President of Altrusa, Mrs Letha Brown. The club is now four years old and has some twenty members.
Last week we had a member of Zonta address our luncheon meeting and I am sure that both these ladies’ service clubs will play their part in future projects for the betterment of Hastings and District.
I urge you to give them your support whenever the opportunity presents itself.
Don.

COMING EVENT: Don’t forget our Tuesday evening meeting, 11 April – Town & Country Forum at Waimarama. Remember there is No usual Luncheon Meeting on that day.

The evening – we take Rotary to the country. Next Tuesday numbers will be taken of members who will be attending the Town & Country Forum – Waimarama.

UNWIND WITH AN ORANGE APPLE: The theme used during the height of the Orange Apple picking season culminating in the Apple Country Fair. This time of the year our community is wrapped up in the Highland Games whereas the district of Orange in N.S.W. hold an Apple Country Fair to promote the local industry. To promote their orchard product – the Orange Apple, and the local orchards and to increase the consumption of Orange Apples through innovating educational programmes to growers, wholesalers, retailers, and consumers. To increase the number of tourists to visit Orange. Our orchard minded people might be interested to learn that the apple production in Orange averages between 36,000 to 45,000 tonnes – the apple crops estimated value of $15,000,000. The annual yield from all the 350 orchards in Orange with a variety of fruit, has risen to $25,000,000. In a community such as the Fruit Bowl of NZ., our fruit industry surely deserves to be packed into the promotion field such as a Country Fair.
