VITAL STATISTICS, 26 June, 1979:
Fines:  $34.17
No one could possibly want to see Rotary statistics today – after seeing all those beautiful females last night thank you, ladies, for sharing the evening with us.

GOSSIP ROUND OUR OFFICE:  Our office boy wanted to come along and see what happens on Change-over Night – he thought it meant someone had a sex-change.

A DREAM CAME TRUE:  A dream at a District Conference came to reality thanks to the support of Rotarians everywhere.  A dream to help a young Exchange Student from Austria who had been born with deformities of the face and hands.  At their Conference of District 545 (which includes Clubs in the U.S.A. from Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming) the Rotarians discussed the possibility of having the young woman undergo plastic surgery.  She promptly agreed to the plan.  A Rotarian doctor from the Rotary Club of Arvada, Colorado, agreed to take the case with his fee to be paid from donations collected by a District committee.  For the same financial arrangement, two members of the Boulder Rotary Club, Colorado, offered the services of the hospital which they helped to administer.  The operation was performed successfully: however, the patient’s artificial left eye was no longer compatible with her new facial contours.  Again, for whatever donation was possible, a Rotarian from Denver, Colorado, helped the young woman be fitted with a new eye.  Now her appearance is greatly improved and the young student’s confidence and self-esteem have blossomed – because Rotarians of District 045 made a dream come true.

NOMINATION:   The following nomination has been received by the Directors and the nominee has agreed to his name going forwards:
T. Luke Wilson – Insurance Assessing.
If no objections are received by the 10 July, then the above will be considered duly elected.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER:
The Rotary Club, of Hastings’ 55th year completed a year to remember.  Thank you, Past President Roger, for so gently and successfully steering our Club through a much varied and most enjoyable year.  Thank you, Neil, Ron, John and Phil for so enthusiastically backing Roger.  Thank you everyone of those unsung heroes of Club Service who quietly and consistently make our Tuesday meeting run so smoothly, successfully – in particular Change-over Night.
As I don the President’s for “Hastings” 56th year (mine too) and Rotary’s 75th, I am conscious of the responsibility it places on me and the new Team of Chairmen and Directors, plus those stalwarts Secretary Frank and Treasurer Colin.
With the members’ support and fellowship (very evident at what must have been one of our most successful and happy Change-over Nights), I feel confident in facing the future together.
May I add two words to this year’s Rotary theme – ” LET SERVICE LIGHT THE WAY – THROUGH FELLOWSHIP”.
Frank.

MEETINGS:   This is our first Committee meeting of our new Rotary year, and Club Service are meeting on Monday 2 July, at 7.30 p. m., home of Jack Cooper, Howard Street, Hastings.

July 6, Margaret & Frank Darroch.

We honour a Special Birthday, that’s what we want to say – our Billy’s having a birthday, he’s 80 years old today.

INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE CHILD & TELETHON:
Our District Governor has reminded us that South Pacific Television Telethon is now here with us to benefit the International Year of the Child and we are urged to give full support.  The I.Y.C. Telethon Trust is chaired by fellow Rotarian Jim Belich.  Wellington. Many projects have been already approved in principle and it is clear that Telethon Funds will reach right through communities to provide positive help in all kinds of youth work.  As Clubs and individuals, we are urged to check what is happening for Telethon in our area and work place.  Any newsworthy activities should be reported to the I.Y.C. Telethon Administration, Mr Harold Innes, 6th Floor, Norwich Union Building, Wellesley Street, Auckland.)

CHANGE-OVER NIGHT:   The Ahuriri Rotary Club are holding their Change-over Night on Monday, 2 July, at the Golden Crown Restaurant’s Dynasty Room.

OUR CLUB BOOKLET:   Last reminder to members to please check our little Club Booklet to make sure that any personal details are correctly listed. Contact Max Luttrell if you desire any alterations.

KINDLY MENTION YOUR NAME:   When you pay at the Attendance Table each Luncheon Meeting, it would assist the two members when they are taking your name and money if you would kindly mention your name.  With the changing over of members’ duties for this new Rotary year, this would help them to become more familiar with their new job.
