TELETHON 1985: Child & Youth Development Trust. The 29-30 June – 24 hours of effort by many people.
Our Hastings City Public Relations Officer, Murray Pinfold advises that his office is co-ordinating activities, and acting as a clearing house for information about Telethon ’85.
Our members are being invited to either “Man” the telephones over the 24 hour period, or combine as an organisation in fund raising.
Murray Pinfold would be pleased to hear of any assistance to Telethon ’85 as soon as possible.

POLIO 2005: This is a Health, Hunger, and Humanity (3H) project that will implement Rotary’s goal of promoting and assisting polio immunization of all children world-wide by the year 2005 – Rotary’s 100th anniversary.
It is expected to cost approx. $US120 million over the 20 year period.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER:
John and I certainly appreciated the support of members and their wives who attended our change over on Wednesday evening.
Our thanks again to John and Sue for their leadership and time given to Hastings Rotary over the past 12 months.
I look forward to your continued support during my term of office at both luncheon and committee meetings.

HAVE YOU MET OUR ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT – EDWARD F CADMAN:
Edward F Cadman is a senior partner and chief of the orthopaedic surgery section of the Wenatchee Valley Clinic. Born in Wenatchee, he graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle and received his medical degree from Columbia University in New York City.
Dr Cadman is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Western Orthopaedic Association and the North Pacific Orthopaedic Society. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In addition, he is a member of the alumni council, regional representative of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
In Washington, he has served as President of the District 246 School Board and the Music Theatre. He has served as Director General of the Washington State Apple Blossom Festival and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Wenatchee Chamber of Commerce. A Rotarian since 1955, Ed is a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Wenatchee. He has served Rotary International as District Governor, consultative group member, committee member, director and vice president.
It gives our Club great pleasure to welcome Edward F Cadman of Wenatchee Washington USA as President of Rotary International, for the Rotary year 1985/86.

WHAT HAPPENS AT OUR HOUSE: Auntie said it must have only been puppy love when she married Uncle – he’s given her a dog’s life ever since.

GOODS & SERVICES TAX:
It appears that this tax will be levied on annual subscriptions and project funds.

Our District Governor has made a submission on behalf of the District, but all presidents and other Rotary members are reminded to be aware of the effect the tax could have on club finances and membership.

SERVIETTES – WITH ROTARY EMBLEMS:
The Rotary Club of Kihikihi offers our Club a new service – Rotary Emblem Serviettes, for use by Clubs and in members homes. Orders – 1000 Serviettes $32.50. We have samples.

GRANTS FOR UNIVERSITY TEACHERS: We are reminded that a new Rotary Foundation programme will begin in the 1985/86 Rotary year. Grants for University Teachers.
The programme will provide approximately ten grants per year in the amount of US$10,000 each, to higher education faculty members to teach for a period of six to ten months in countries other than their own, especially in developing countries.
Applications should be directed to the Rotary Foundation Committee in each District; to the Central Office of the Secretariat in Evanston, Illinois USA or any branch office for information and application forms.
