MAKE A CONTRIBUTION TO ROTARY:   Each Rotarian is a Public Relations man for Rotary – he should identify himself as a Rotarian at every opportunity.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER:
An excellent talk from our speaker Tony Ward last Tuesday on the subject of Industrial Relations. We appreciated the examples of industrial relationship provided between the worker and the boss and as he stated, there are certain principles to be adopted by the employer to employees. A written code of conduct should be placed before the worker before the commencement of his employment is helpful as to the type of job relation criteria.
Communication – and how we learn to work together in our living environment.
Reminds us of some of the basic rules as provided by Ned Klumph, Management Consultant of the executive newsletter “Room at the Top” – “Encourage participation – expand responsibilities – create a learning environment – provide positive recognition – provide the ground rules by being absolutely clear in your explanations to groups and individuals of exactly what you want, what you expect and when you expect it.
Ned is also a member of the Rotary Club of Garden State Cherry Hill, New Jersey USA.
Next Tuesday, 11 March, our Sgt-at-Arms session will be devoted to the raising of funds for the Lions Appeal in favour of the health of that young lady, Elva Harris.
Quote:   An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning will be blessed at the end.

FUN RUN – NATIONAL HEART FOUNDATION:
Members are invited to join the Fun Run of the National Heart Foundation and support Hawke’s Bay region’s contribution to finance the Foundation’s Chair in Cardiovascular Studies.
It starts in Hastings at 9.30 am at the Hastings Racecourse on Sunday 9 March.
Entry contribution – $2 adults – under 16 years, $1. Spot prizes – 5 Bank of NZ Auto Access Accounts, $20 each (under 16) T-shirts, Gift Vouchers etc.
Refreshments available.

ROTARACT ROSTER – YOUTH COMMITTEE:
March 10 (Board Meeting) – Graeme Fear
March 12 (Club Meeting) –

LIBRARY:   Our District Governor advises that he has checked with John Blake, Rotary Librarian, material available for Clubs.
John Blake hopes that District Clubs could place their order to Australia, through him, so that he can get an idea of what is required from Clubs.

WHAT OTHER CLUBS ARE DOING:
The Rotary Club of Vihti, Finland, sold paintings made by children suffering from cancer. Proceeds from sales were donated to a national organisation that supports children in hospitals and their families.

STANDARDS ASSOCIATION – PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT
Our attention is directed to the above Safety Standard for Playgrounds and Playground Equipment NZS-5828.
Clubs are being asked if they would be interested in assisting the distribution of these pamphlets, by ordering a bulk supply for distribution. Clubs are also invited to obtain a copy of this Standard.

JUST A THOUGHT: In the old days horsepower was a lot safer – when the horses had it.
