PRESIDENT’S CORNER:   Once again our programme team came up with an interesting speaker.  This regular feat has undoubtably been one of the strengths of our weekly luncheons.
As this is my last contribution to the club bulletin in my capacity as President, I will take the opportunity of saying thank you fellows for all your tremendous support over my 12 months term.  It has been a privilege to serve as your President.  This has been a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
PROVERBS:   “A quick tempered man does foolish things and a crafty man is hated.”
“Humility and the fear of the Lord being wealth and honour and life.

ROTARY TIES are now available.  These are very smart in either maroon, navy blue – dark brown.  These top quality ties are only $12 (cost price).   Contact Secretary Frank to obtain yours.

THANKS:   Members of the Club would like to thank Derek and Betty for a year of dedicated leadership.   We have enjoyed the year with you as boss, Derek, and look forward to sharing your company as a floor member once more.

People do some strange things – take kissing!   Of no use to one, but bliss for two.  The small boy gets it for nothing, the young man has to lie for it, and the old man has to buy it!   It is a baby’s right, the lover’s privilege, and the hypocrite’s mask.  To a young girl, faith; to a married woman, hope; to an old maid, charity!

KARAMU CLUB now meet at the Hastings Club, Cnr Market and St Aubyn Streets, 5.30 pm.  Thursdays.

RESIGNATION:   The Directors have received with regret the resignation of Past President Peter Single.  We shall all miss Peter’s contribution to Club activities.

FROM D. G. IAN’S FINAL NEWSLETTER:  Attendance for May
Hastings with 81% was 21st= out of 52 clubs.  It was with deep regret that we learnt of the passing of Cecilia Dunlop, wife of P.D.G. Jack Dunlop.  Our thoughts go out to Jack at this time.

ROTARY BRINGS HOPE

PRESIDENT ROBBIE’S PIECE:   Since I last wrote my President’s piece we have had two very good meetings and we have completed the first month of our Rotary Year.  It is very pleasing to hear from Committee Chairmen that they had good meetings with good fellowship and  some very worthwhile projects being established.  Alan Sim – Executive Vice President of NZ Chamber of Commerce left us with some thoughts about where we in New Zealand should be heading.
It was a real pleasure to welcome to Hastings our C. G. Brian and his wife, Colleen.  To the Ladies that attended the coffee morning at our home to meet Colleen, Ngaire and Betty, I hope you all enjoyed yourselves.  Thank you you all for supporting Ngaire on her first official engagement.  D. G. Brian gave us all a different look and appreciation of how he sees his year ahead.  His new approach will be like a breath of fresh air to Rotary in District 993.
Although Elizabeth Carr missed out on final selection for the GSE Team, we can be all very proud of her – she kept herself and Hastings Rotary to the front.  For that we can say well done, Elizabeth.
