ROTARY BRINGS HOPE

PRESIDENT ROBBIES PIECE:
Youth activities month through September has produced an additional opportunity to allow our Club to nominate a candidate for Outward Bound. Nominations for this close on September 30th. Additional information and details are available from Youth Committee Chairman David or myself. What an interesting speech we had from fellow Rotarian, Michael. This was followed by our two RYLA Awardees, Angelina and Cheron. Their enthusiasm gives us all encouragement to continue to support the RYLA Project.

Youth education aid goes begging
One of the most under utilised District Committees and one of the best placed to bring Hope to many youngsters in their educational pursuits is the J.R. McKenzie Youth Education Fund chaired by John Hogg of the Fairfield Rotary Club.
A small number of clubs understand and utilise rather well, the assistance which can be and is given, but John wants to see a greater number.
His committee is looking ideally for under-privileged children, particularly those who show an ability to improve their lot, but due to insufficient finance, are unable to progress satisfactorily.
Quite often John’s committee finds need for clothing, school books etc. He suggests caution here as money allocated can often go further if school second-hand stores or opportunity shops are utilised and school fees can be waived.
John would appreciate [k]it if a good summary of the request be given on the application forms so that prompt action can be taken.
Quite often he receives insufficient information, amounts required, personal and family details, and sometimes the total monetary requirements are beyond the facilities of the fund, i.e. $3000 plus for one individual. Age is also important, remembering emphasis is on Youth. Exceptions can be made, but the case needs to be exceptional.
There are many underprivileged children in our Club areas. Find them and utilise these funds.

Attendance for June
Our Club was 14th in the District with an average attendance
Keep it up

ROTARY BRINGS HOPE

PRESIDENT ROBBIE’S PIECE:
To enable Editor Don to publish our bulletin on time I am having to write this prior to our visit to Waipawa. A big thank you to all who have assisted in arranging our first inter Club visit for some time. I do understand that changing our meeting time to an evening is not always convenient for a number of us and I appreciate the support of the 33 members who will travel to Waipawa to visit a Club that was sponsored by the Hastings Rotary Club in 1948. An interesting day to be held in Napier on Saturday the 15th November when our District holds its Information and Discussion Meeting.
Any Rotarian that wishes to come please contact me by Friday evening the 14th. we are sponsoring a Staff Member from Karamu High School to the two day Peer Support Seminar to be held in Napier in Monday and Tuesday, the 17th and 18th November.  It will be an interesting to see how this programme develops in Hawkes Bay as there is good support from Clubs and schools in our District for the Seminar.

DANNEVIRKE GOLF FORUM – Sunday 23rd November
This is a great day’s fellowship and fun. Final day for entries is Tuesday 28th with Don Patterson.

LADIES NAME BADGES: Please check with you wife that she does have a name badge. If not please advise details to President Robbie. Cost $5 including GST.

THE VISIT TO WAIPAWA: I am writing this having just returned with 33 very happy fellows who thoroughly enjoyed good fellowship, good food, a great speaker and lots of laughs. We missed many of you and you missed a great trip.

FROM OUR EXCHANGE STUDENT, SARA BAKER IN DENMARK:
In May I went on the Rotary Euro bus tour; first to Germany then Austria (3 days in Vienna) to Italy and France with 3 days in Paris, being the highlight of the tour, then to Belgium, Holland and back to Denmark. The tour was unbelievably great and I took 130 photos. I left for England on 12th June to visit my sister, brother-ion-law and relatives for 3 weeks then back to Denmark and school after fabulous holidays. My congratulations to the new President and greetings form the Naestved Rotary Club – love from Sarah.
