PRESIDENT NEIL’S NOTES
Once a month as Marshall Ted Tucker collects our shrapnel, we are reminded it is the first Tuesday. May I remind you of the reason. The amount collected on that day is forwarded to Rotary Foundation and is our Club’s only regular contribution to the Foundation for the wide and varied work it does. Remember the video shown on Changeover night! This is why encouragement is given to dig a little deeper on this one day of the month.
Last year our Club gave approximately $650 .00 in this way toward a District 993 target of $ 53000. With 53 Clubs and some giving nothing, it seems highly unlikely the target was met. The important thing to remember is that these are the funds used for Health, Hunger and Humanity (3-H) grants ($26 million in 48 countries), Polioplus ($226 million is being used to immunize the world’s children against six vaccine preventable diseases), Scholarships (1371 from 73 countries), GSE team trips (336), Special grants (where individual Club raised funds for international service are matched). These are figures from last Rotary year.
Each month then, we have the chance to share in this wider work, so rather than just casually emptying our pockets of a small amount of loose change, let’s feel a pride and a purpose as we play a part in this worldwide aspect of Rotary Service.

The last Rotary year saw the establishment of the “Rotary Friendship Exchange” as a ‘recommended activity’, for all Clubs and Districts. As a result, a record breaking number of almost 300 Rotary Friendship Exchange Chairmen from more than 40 countries have been appointed this year. Friendship Exchange allows Rotarians and their families to travel abroad as Ambassadors of Goodwill and to stay as guests in the homes of Rotarians in other countries. The purpose: to foster better understanding and lasting ties between people of different nations.

Youth Exchange – Last Rotary year more than 6000 students participated in Youth Exchange in 54 countries.

REMEMBER THE 4-WAY TEST
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendship?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
