PRESIDENT NEIL’S NOTES
Last Rotary year, much was made of the RI theme ‘Enjoy Rotary’. It was easy to remember and under President Gary’s leadership, easy to do. Each new RI President brings his own theme and Paulo Costa from Brazil this year challenges us to “Honour Rotary with Faith and Enthusiasm”. Bearing in mind the objectives and work of Rotary, this is a theme loaded with challenge. The President specifically asks that we are loyal and active by participating in all Club initiatives; that we make our vocation an example of justice and honesty in all dealings; that we display the true image of Rotary by helping others to understand the full scope of Rotary’s mission.

As part of his programme, President Costa has launched a project “Preserve Planet Earth”, by stating “the hour has come to rouse all Rotarians to an honourable crusade to protect our natural resources”. He has challenged Clubs to carry out projects aimed at the preservation of nature, focusing on the areas of fauna, flora, air pollution and water resources. Our Community Service committee is looking at this area of environmental awareness and would welcome any ideas or suggestions from any member. I’m sure most of us at times make comment about some aspect of environmental concern, well here fellows, is a chance to address them by raising public awareness through Club statement or Club action.
