PRESIDENT NEIL’S CORNER
May I extend greetings and best wishes to you all for the New Year. 1990 was a year full of promise, it being the year celebrating 150 years of nationhood, and the Commonwealth Games creating a high worldwide profile. Certainly these were times to be happy about and to celebrate in the wider sense of community and the nation. However in more intimate and personal ways, 1990 was a tough year for many, and there have been those within the Club affected too. This shows that though we all can plan and prepare, there are still those events and experiences that can only be faced as and when they arise. But with each new year the opportunity is there to at least in part, put of those things behind us and look to the days ahead as a new beginning with its new and fresh challenges and experiences.
Fellows, as we are encouraged to bring our experience and expertise and the training of our vocation to Rotary, I believe Rotary in return, can be a helpful and stable influence on us. With Rotary objectives in mind, the sharing of fellowship and outward looking areas of service, these things can help to keep everything in perspective. hope is that 1991 will be a good year for all, and I believe our participation and enjoyment in Rotary can help to create a base for that. Immediately our attention is taken by two quite different causes – the Child Cancer Support Group and the Hastings Citizens’ Brass Band, who are the two recipients of our major fundraising event of the year, the Charity Golf tournament. Give it your support and encouragement by attending, whether as a player, worker or spectator.
