Have you ever thought about writing to a magazine.

If you can write to C.J. articles about anything – your funniest experience – that time you went camping – you can ask questions relating to S.J.A.B. and we will endeavour to answer them – you may send in that photo or drawing, poem or short story, hints or suggestions and of course for absolutely no charge at all you may advertize in C.J.

SOCIAL COMMITTEES AND ORGANIZERS OF OTHER EVENTS, A FEW LINES IN C.J. WILL BE SEEN BY EVERY CADET IN H.B.

C.J IS AT YOUR DISPOSAL.

N.B: THE MAY ISSUE OF C.J. WILL BE OUR ANNIVERSARY ISSUE. YES, WE WILL BE ONE YEAR OLD AND TO CELEBRATE THE OCCASION ARTICLES OF INTEREST WILL BE MOST WELCOME – OUR AIM IS AS MANY PAGES AS POSSIBLE.

NOTIFY US NOW

This is the last month that some Divisions will be receiving C.J. Postage is expensive and if we have no evidence that some divisions are receiving it we will be compelled to cease posting to those Divisions. They are:

Taradale Ambulance and Nursing,
Gisborne Ambulance and Nursing, and
Wairoa and Havelock Nursing Divisions.

TO IMPROVISE A SLING

In improvising a sling for an injury to the upper limb, the coat or waistcoat can be turned up and secured to the body. A little experimenting will show how to arrange the clothes for an injury on either one side of the body or the other, and with the arm at almost any angle. In the case where a coat is not in use, the shirt sleeve may be used by securing with safety pins in whatever position is required.

1st Woman: If I had twins do you know what I would call them?
2nd Woman: No, What?
1st Woman: Peter and Repeater.
2nd Woman: Mine would be Ann and Another.

REMINDER – All articles must be in the hands of the editor by the 18th of each month.

NAPIER CADETS SAVE TWO SISTERS

Two of Napier Nursing Cadets were in the limelight when they saved two young girls from drowning at Redcliffe last month. They were Misses Pamela and Jeanette Heaven.

Pamela revived the first girl who was nearly unconscious when Pamela’s parents brought her from deep water. Meanwhile Jeanette saw the sister to this girl in difficulties and went to her rescue. She was struggling with the girl when a bystander grabbed the child and pulled her out.

You never know when you will be needed and your prompt action may save a life as did Pamela and Jeanette Heaven.

Reporters for C.J. Suggested .

As you may well realise the editor of C.J. can by no means attend every function in the H.B.-E.C. District. So, in order that we get news from all divisions, we are asking Superintendents to appoint a Divisional Reporter who would be responsible for sending all the news to C.J. as well as any suggestions or any other interesting articles that may be forwarded by Cadets in his division.

HASTINGS Ambulance Cadets are fortunate that throughout 1957 they will see many instructive films obtained through the Health Department by Dr. Aarons and shown by Mr. Kemp.

SWIMMING TROPHY TO HASTINGS NURSING DIV.

The St. John Ambulance Brigade’s Hawke’s Bay-East Coast district cadet swimming champion-ships were held at the Taradale school baths last Saturday.

Teams from Napier, Hastings and Taradale competed; and in the girls’ section, the Hastings team built up a convincing lead. In the boys’ division, the Taradale team had their first win in the event. The contest was for the Chas. Bone Memorial Cup. The Hastings girls, who received the highest points for their team, retained the trophy.

NAPIER NEWS On the 1st December 1956 the Napier Nursing Cadet Division held an enjoyable dance, the disappointing factor was that the night clashed with other engagements which prevented many cadets from Taradale, Hastings etc. from attending.

We were delighted to have some of the district staff present, namely Miss Phillips, Mrs. Yeo, Mr. Barden and Mrs. Jarvis.

During the evening Mr. Barden presented P.F.C., Cycling, and, Physical recreation Certificates; four Ist. Proficiency, three 2nd. Proficiency stars and Grand Prior Badges. The girls receiving the badges were Marjorie Rayner, Pamela Heaven, Jeanette Heaven, and Patricia Moon. The cup for the Best All Round Cadet went to Diane Harris.

HASTINGS. District held their Annual Street Appeal on Friday the 22nd. The result of which was £460. The Association expressed their gratitude to all the contributors and helpers.
