THE CADET JOTTINGS

December 1958   Volume 3., No. 3

May each hour of Christmas
Bring you real gladness,
And every day of the New Year
Hold within it some special joy
That adds to your lasting happiness.

From Mr. Harril Barden, Commissioner to the Order in the Hawkes Bay-East Coast District:-

Here we are with Christmas only a few days off and the New Year just around the corner it seems – and another year of St. John activities concluded.

I’m sure it is a most successful year for St. John in our District. That success is in no small measure due to the work and activities of Cadet Superintendents, Officers and Cadets. With increased membership and an awakening to the things one can gain by taking an active part in the work of our Order, I am sure you all feel as I do, that our efforts are worthwhile.

So to all the Officers and Cadets who have worked so hard a special ‘Thank you’ from myself and members of the District Staff.

To our own “Cadet Jottings” my sincere congratulations on a brighter and better than ever magazine.

To you all in St. John a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Harril Barden
Commissioner

Great Successes By Former Hastings Cadets

Former Cadet Ray Baxter made a practically “clean sweep” of the trophies available to the senior division this year. He won cups for practical first aid, Question and answer (50 questions) as well as the Maddison Shield (aggregate points for efficiency).

Earlier this year Ray led a group consisting of himself, Cadet Superintendent R. Burfield, Cadet Officer N. Richards and ex-cadet Paul Hawke at competitions in Waipukurau. They won the team test and improvising sections while Ray took the award for best leader.

The other ex-cadet was Paul Hawke who was runner to Ray for the First Aid Cup.
