Open night.
1958 sees the start of our combined colour and monochrome meetings on two nights per month in place of the old arrangement of two monochrome nights and one colour. This new arrangement should cater for all tastes at every meeting.
Showing of Colour Slides –
At the first meeting each month there will be a showing of colour slides and each member is invited to bring along a maximum of 4 slides for showing and criticism.
It is by criticism of our work that we are able to improve our standard so be sure to bring the slides along.
Competitions –
There is an “Open subject” competition each month in both colour and monochrome. In addition there is a set subject as well as open, each second month. We do hope to have good entries for all these competitions during this year.
We are tempted to say that we have this to do and that to do, which apparently makes us too busy for the competitions, but remember we all have quite a few jobs to do so if some can make the effort it is up to us all to do so, for by so doing we are not only improving our own work, but probably helping the other chap. Competition is the life blood of any club.
Lovell-Smith Competitions –
As we announced last year, our good friend Peter Hammond has come to the fore again to try and help us along the path.
The first offer concerns colour workers, the prize for which is a Kodachrome film. The subject is a series of not more than 30 colour slides of a tour or other connected series of slides with a commentary which is not to last longer than 30 minutes. Points will be awarded for general photographic excellence and for general interest. You may either deliver the commentary personally or, if you prefer, have it recorded on the Club’s tape recorder. It will be permissable for you to have somebody else deliver the commentary, but this will cost you up to 10 marks, unless the judges know there is some good reason for you being unable to do the talking yourself. This competition is now open and will close tentatively on the 1st September, so get cracking and let the competition steward know when you have your entry for viewing.
