NEWSLETTER COVERING COMMITTEE MEETING HELD 9TH JUNE, 1976.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Page, Mrs Campbell, Mr. McNair, Mr. Mills, Mr. O’Connor, Mr. Stevenson and apologies were received from Mrs. Desmond, Mr. Sweeney and Mr. Williams.

Further to our last newsletter concerning the installation of music in the Centrepoint Block the system is going to be installed during the weekend of 19th – 20th June. Mr. Hargreaves will be arriving from Auckland on Friday 18th and will start work during the afternoon. On Saturday 19th we would like as many retailers as possible to help because it is only with the help of everyone that we can get a reduction in the cost of installation. We must have fourteen helpers at the very least. No technical knowledge is necessary. Would everyone who is prepared to give their tine and assistance please phone either Mr. Page or Mrs. Campbell at 87670 as soon as possible.

In view of the fact that the system is going in immediately it would be appreciated if all shops who agreed to give their support to this project could let us have their cheques by the end of June.

The Committee feels that immediately after installation of this music it is advisable to have a meeting of all retailers concerned to discuss all aspects of its usage. This meeting is called for on 23rd of June at 5. 30p.m. (meeting not exceeding one hour) to be held in McKenzies staff room.

A sales promotion in the form of a three day sale is planned for 7th, 8th, and 9th July. These dates have be decided on so as not to clash with local race meetings being held on the two previous weekends. Committee members are having a meeting with the Herald-Tribune in an effort to get a representative from their newspaper to call and discuss advertising for the sale with all retailers. We are also approaching the Daily Telegraph with the same view in mind. Radio advertising has been arranged as well. We are sure all retailers will get behind this sale and make it a success.

A levy of $6 per shop to cover costs was agreed on.

The meeting closed at 9.15.
