Born Napier, 7 April 1934, daughter of Donald Ambrose Shephard and Willena Mary (née Ross); married Alan Aitchison Cockburn, son of Alexander and Gwen Cockburn, 1957; one son three daughters.
Education: Westshore, Nelson Park Primary Schools, Napier; Napier Intermediate; Napier Girls High School.
Sheep farming, 33 years.  President, Waihau Patoka Red Cross Branch, 1974-1979; North Hawkes Bay Red Cross Centre: Chairman 1977-1981, Executive Member 1981-1982, Vice President 1982-1984; NZ Red Cross Society: National Executive Member, 1982-1986, National President 1986 -; Head, NZ Delegation, International Red Cross Conference, 1986-1991, China visit 1989; Award of Merit, Venezuelan Red Cross, 1991; Councillor of Honour, NZ Red Cross Society, 1991; President, Patoka Country Women’s Institute, Group Convenor, North Hawke’s Bay Federation Country Women’s Institute; Elder, Presbyterian Church.
Sports: Hawke’s Bay Basketball Representative, 1952-1956, Secretary, Hawke’s Bay Basketball Association, 1954-1956.
