Dear Mr Darroch

The donation of $100.00 by the Hastings Rotary Club for the Whakatu Community project was much appreciated.

As you are aware, this department employed and supervised two Bachelor of Social Work students from Massey University (Barbara Scarfe and Delia Anderson) to provide a holiday programme in the Whakatu area.  The purpose of this community project was to involve parents as much as possible and provide a programme for the school age children, so that they could be supervised and usefully employed during the holiday period.

Your donation was used to subsidize a party of 60 children on a day trip to Fantasyland, which involved boating, train rides, Putt Putt games, swimming and skating.

The overall programme has been highly successful with an average of 40-50 children and young people attending daily.  The activities have been many and varied, including day trips to the Hastings Aquatic Centre, Y.M.C.A., the Marine Parade, Cape Kidnappers and Westshore as well as sport, art and disco days within the Whakatu community.

The support of the community has helped make this project so successful and we are grateful to your club for making this possible.

Yours sincerely
Jackie Baird
