To weld Iron.  Cement for

Equal parts of sulphur and white lead with about one sixth proportion of borax, are the Constituent of the mixture, and the three should be thoroughly incorporated together so as to form one homogeneous mass.  When the Composition is to be applied it should be wetted with strong sulphuric acid, and a thin layer of it placed between the two pieces of iron to be connected, these being at once pressed together.

Saturday 1st October 1892   Diary

1st SA   Showery.  Put in 1 row peas 1 row of mangolds.  Jubilee round again.  All have colds.  Wind & rain tonight.
2nd Sun   Wet day.  Bengston called.
Mon 3rd   Round all sheep.  Went & saw J. H. Bov.  Had dinner.  Called at Bengston’s. E went to Norsewood got Toms letter 20£ to my credit today.  Measured Bush with Bengtson £25 per acre & everything to be felled except Rata’s   10 chains by 21 chains.  Pastor Ries called.
Tu 4th   Docking at Makatoku [Makotuku].  63 wethers 59 ewes.  1 ewe & lamb left in paddock lamb too young.  1 ewe away.  Total docked 124  (1 died leaving 123 Nov 4th)   Mary at Mak [Makotuku].  Gave John ch £17 10 6 got 10/- & bacon.

WED 5   All hands mustered ewes & lambs.  John came & we docked and dagged 110 ewes with 117 lambs 63 ewe 54 w lambs 2 w lamb pets 6 ewes to lamb 2 weth 11 hogs found 1 ewe dead in the morning.

Fr 7th   Went to Hastings show.

SUN 9   At home all day.  G Cox went back.
Mon 10   Took youngsters in buggy to brewery, up to Wilsons.  Ella went to school.  Scrubbing.
TU 11th   Showery.  Put in potatoes leeks sorted potatoes counted rams got Wilsons Bill.  Wet night.

M 31st   Got dead wool scrubbed.   lost axe   got in rams shore 2   cleaned buggy.   Miss King called.

1st Nov    NOV
1892.
Went to Ormondville buggy with El.   Shore 2 rams dagged 86 ewes with G Hansen got 20 bales paid 3/5   R carriage went to Mak to meet El.  Thompson docking.
WED 2nd   Saw Webbs sheep.  Bought 3 rams for £3   two tooths 10/- 4 tooths 11/- off shears.  Dined at J H Bovairds   Shore remaining 4 rams.
Th 3rd   Went with El to Makatoku.  I went over to Mrs Friberg.  She was starting shearing.  I & John got in sheep & dagged.  1 stranger.  El had very bad headache at night.
Fr 4th   Went to Wilsons got axe handle went with horse & dray over section   left fencing tools at new gateway.
Sat 5th   Finished wool bale stage.  Wet day.  Mr Hagen called.  Worked in shed   8/6 to pay for repairing boots.

Nov 1892
Sun 6   Youngsters went to Sunday School.  El & I went to Mak.  Ada up.  Mary & Flor came to Ormondville with us.  We picked up children
Mon 7   Weeding hedge.  Washed shed floor   Saw hogs.  Cut out honeysuckle   docked 3 lambs   Killed wether.  Paid shoemaker 8/6   Fish
Tu 8th   Cut laurel grass.  4 men came from Norsewood to put up swings   E went to Mak for children.  Florrie & Mary came.  All here
WE 9th   Went with buggy to Ormondville   great picnic gathering.
TH 10th   A downpour of rain.  Erected wool table took Mary & Flor home.  Heavy rain boy came to borrow Cockie   Nicholls
Fr 11th   Made panel at shed.  Carted strainer & rails to Petersens Corner.  Mip, Inglis came E took Ada & Ella by Ormondv.

Sat 12   Made gateway Petersens Corner   E went to Mrs Fritz.  Weeding
SUN 13   Wet afternoon.  E & T & J church
Mon 14th   Went to Bull with Jubilee   Mustered ewes & lambs   found 1 dead lamb 1 ewe under log   dagged ewes and lambs.
Tu 15   Shifted Ewes & Lambs to Widerups gave notice to Sv Neal & Mortensen   Got hogs on to Petersens.
We 16   Got in & counted 256 Hogs   dagged some   Came on wet.  Hans Mortensen came.
TH 17   Went with E in buggy to JHB got cheque for 15 £
Fr 18   Went to shear JHB 50 ewes   Mrs Lockhead & other ladies calld.
Sat 19   Finished shearing 97 ewes.
Sun 20   Went up to swings in reserve
M 21   Went with E in buggy to JHB   Carted wool to station.  Went to Papatu

Nov 1892
E & Mary to Mrs Fribergs.
Commenced to mow this afternoon.
TU 22   Mustered & finished dagging hogs.  Shore a few.  Came on to rain.  Mrs Friberg came.
We 23   Showery.  Shore 16 Hog forenoon
TH 24   Went round big section saw no stragglers.  Saw Bengson [Bengtson] & son scrubbing.  Mowed some went to Orm [Ormondville] for Welbs rams.  One died on dray.  Salt butter.
Fr 25   Mowed some in morning got in Hogs shore some came on to rain put 50 in night pen shore 30
Sat 26   Shore 20 before breakfast   came on very rain pressed one bale 62 fleeces.
Sun 27   Went to Lockheads with Miss King. Christensen Fris came.  Got in Hog.  Shore 9

DEC 1892
Mon 28   Commenced to shear early did about 80 Hogs   Ada came
TU 29   Got in all hogs   shorn and unshorn.  Put 2 shorn 4 tooth on Widerups.  Turned hay.
Wed 30   Finished shearing.  Hoggets 126   Ewe hog. 1 died – 125   pressed 1 bale   2 Fris mowing.
TH 1st   Decem 2 Fris finished mowing at mid day.  Pressed Hogs wool 4 bales   Fleeces – 62. 63. 62. 59   6 fine fleeces 4 mats[?] – 254   Bengsen [Bengtson] came, got in ewes & lambs.  Sold him £8 & 12/- to be given to C Fris.  J Lockhead called, did not take his ewe.  Commenced shearing ewes, did 13, and then filled the shed.  E Headache.

DEC 2nd   Showery.  Shearing. Pressed 1 bale made some hay.

Wed 7th   Mustered Widerups.  Took 118 ewes all told 129 lambs to Makatoku.  Brought back 92 ewes & 4 Hogs.  2 strangers   Ada came back, shore some.  Presed Bale No. 5   42+ ewe.
Th 8   Went and saw Bush with Bengsten shore 54 Rom ewe got tar dressed ewe.  Miss King for tea.  Went to O A & H S meeting.
Fr 9th   Finished shearing at home 92 Romney ewes & 4 hoggt 117 lambs
Put 2 Hogt on Petersens & 3 before = 5 + 254 total 259
Sat 10th   Pressing wool 4 bales   Killed hen
Sun 11th   At home killed lame ewe
M 12   Went with horse & dray etc & E to shear at Makatok shore 22 in the afternoon.

Dec 1892
TU 13th   Finished shearing ½ bred ewes 93 ewes & 88 lambs.
WE 14   Pressed 1 bale & ½ bale branded ewes & dagged lambs 93 & 88 docked 3 ewe & 2 wether lambs carted wool box etc home.  Miss King called for prize money.
Dec 15   Loaded 7 bales.  Met J Bovaird near old brewer.  Saw J Thompson & party at goods shed.  Got “Cockie” shod.  Paid Olsen 8/-
Fr 16   Loaded 6 bales.  Put 13 on truck at Ormondville.  Paid Skinner 15/8   Went to Mak to cart in hay.  John gone away.  Mrs Friberg came over.  Schools broke up   Miss King called   came on a heavy shower
Sat 17   John came early.  Carting in hay.  Miss King left in buggy for Napier.

Dec 1892
Sun 18th   All went to see fallen bush   1 lamb through fence with Hogs
Mon 19 Started early with C & dray for Mak took children Carted in all hay cut.  Thompson shearing   4 children Auntie Flor & Mary came to Oakl [Oakleigh].  Flor arm hurt I called at Friberg’s   Saw Nils
Tu 20   Put hay together.  John disappointed.  Gave an order for 2 drums of dip.  Willie & Ella went home.  Top gave letter to Mr Bengtsen.  E went Norsewood
We 21   Wet in morning.  All to Ormondville   Welb got in sheep.  Had tea at J.H.B. E new hat Groom’s   Saw J Lockhead coming home   Mrs Cunningham sells geese.  John stayed behind.

TH 22   John came early.  Carted in 2 load hay, headed stack   Rode to Wells sheep yards   picked out & delivered to Mr Friberg 50 Hoggs   Went to J H Bov   Johns clothes.  Hans Mortensen came for bales.
Fr 23   Raked up hay.  Got in a lad of firewood.  Mustered hoggs.  Shifted them to big sec 149   8 amongst ewe & lamb   Mr G Heslop called late.
Sat 24   Mr Heslop came showed him two tooth ewes as specimen    sold him 125 Hoggts at 11/-   went with E & J in buggy to Orm   brought Jack back.  Auntie & Flor went to see Dr Reed.  Tom came from Waipukurau late.

Xmas Day   Dec
Su 25th   Went with buggy to Ormv brought back John Top & Mary
Mo 26   Went with Tom to Factory all went to Ada’s   Anna & Gertie called here 11 AM.  Joss the dog cleared out.
Tu 27   Went to some houses to ask for Joss   Went to Wilsons got shares removed on mare.  Went to sports found Joss.  Tea Rechabite Hall.
WED 28   Cleaning hedges W.C.E. picnic   Brought home 3 geese   Wool Sale.
Th 29   Did some scrubbing.  Burnt about creek   made drinking places for sheep.  Mr Vaug. Passed
Fr 30   Went to Mrs Fribergs picked out 50, 2 tooth ewes rained in afternoon.  Went to Lockheads.

Jan 1893
Sat 31st   Geese ran & flew from John & Top.  All hands looked for geese in vain  Did some scrubbing.  Mrs Vaughan & Co went past   E got beef in Norsewood.  Wet

children went to Ada’s   Went in buggy to JHB picked Gooseberrys.  Attended O H & A Son[?]   home very late and very cold.
Sat 7th   Put in cabbage plants.  Shelf in shed   gave J T Wilson cheque for 3.0.6 got £2 back got 5/- for church.
Sun 8   Went with E to church.
Mon 9   Fencing house side of privet.  Macey passed.  E went in buggy to Makatoku brought back Ada & Auntie went on to Norsewood.  Had tea   had letter from Williams & Kettle   wool coarser than last year
Tu 9th   Finished hedge fence. Got in all rams.  Went to Vestry.  Bought hat at Groom 3/-   paid quarterly 10/- Wilson 5/-

Jan We 11th   Scrubbing.  Miss King called in afternoon & went with E in buggy to Ormondville.  Stayed there all night.  Willie & Ella here.

Mo 16th   Ada came   Mustered Hoggs.  116 delivered at 11/-   9 rejected.  Put E & L on Wider
Tu 17   Up at 4 AM went to Bengtson yards picked out 6 Freezers leaving 110 sold.  Youngsters went home with Ella.  Ada E Top & John went to Francis Agincourt wet afternoon.
W 18   Cut & dragged round soil out of reserve bush with Cockie

Th 9th   Went with horse & dray to Ormondville   got parcel from Neal & Close.  Also one sack potatoes & Rye seed from G cox.  Dipped John Bovaird’s sheep.
