Born Masterton, 20 November 1942, son of William Keith Dick and Isobel (née Sharples); married (1) Colleen Doyle, daughter of Conan and Enid Doyle, 1963 (dissolved 1988); (2) Elizabeth Ann Schwass, daughter of Ashley and Betty Schwass, 1990; one son three daughters.
Education: Raureka, Hastings, and Wairoa Primary Schools; Wairoa College; Victoria University, ACA.
Accountancy clerk, Company Secretary, 1960-1966; data processing sales account rep, Burroughs Corporation, Napier, Wellington, 1966-1973; Managing Director, Totara Motors Limited (Mazda), Napier, 1973-1979; self-employed in takeaway foods, 1979-1981; commercial real estate agent, 1981-1983; motor garage proprietor, 1983-1988; Executive Director, Napier YMCA, 1986-1989.  Elected Napier City Council, 1983, topped poll, chosen Deputy Mayor; defeated in mayoralty bid against incumbent, 1986, but elected Napier Harbour Board, 1986-1989– won six-way contest for mayoralty, 1989, and topped poll for Napier Representative, Hawkes Bay Regional Council; Director, Port of Napier Limited, 1989 – ; Member, HB Salvage Trust (recycling), 1983 -; Board Member, Napier YMCA; past Committee/Board Member: Jyem Trust (employment trust), Napier CAB, Napier Pilot City Trust (community development organisation).
Recreations: reading, tennis, running for fitness.
